"Martin y las estrellas". Proceso creativo. Creative process of the book "Martin y las estrellas".

Me gustaría mostraros en este post, el proceso creativo de mi primer álbum ilustrado, en el que soy autora completa, lo he escrito e ilustrado. Tengo un especial cariño a este búho llamado Martin. Esta editado por la editorial Babidi-bú.

Este cuento pretende transmitir a los más pequeños que para conseguir algo que les
ilusione de verdad, es muy importante esforzarse y tener fe en uno mismo, como nuestro
protagonista, Martín, al que no le frena ser un pequeño búho. Y así, finalmente, conseguir
aquello que desea por encima de todo.

In this post, I would like to show you the creative process of my first Illustrated album, where I am the autor, writer and illustrator. I have a very special feeling for this Owl called Martin. It is edited by the publishing house Babibi-bú.

This story is intended to transmit to the little ones that in order to get something that really excites them, is very important to try hard and have faith in oneself, as our main character does, Martin, eventhough he is a little owl. Therefore, at the end, to get something you desire above everything.

Mi proceso creativo para este libro ha sido un poco diferente, ya que lo primero que he hecho es escribir el texto, en la mayoría de libros me dan el texto y desde ahí voy pensando cada ilustración, pero en este caso se hace más caótico, ya que a la vez que pienso el texto, se me van ocurriendo ilustraciones, lo voy viendo ya como un cuento en mi cabeza, así que garabateo cosas, apunto frases...de hecho, para este libro no tengo un storyboard, como suelo hacer en casi todos, para llevar un orden.

Subo algunas fotos de ilustraciones originales. Para la edición definitiva alguna de ellas ha sido descartada o cambiada por otra, así son los procesos creativos ;).

My creative process for this book has been a Little different, since first thing I have done was to write the text. In most of the books I got, they had already the text, and from it, I started thinking on each illustration. But in this case, it got a little chaotic, since at the same time, while I was thinking on the text, I got ideas on the illustrations. I was seeing it all together as a story on my head. So I did scribble things, wrote down some phrases... as a matter of fact, for this book I didn't have a storyboard, as I used to, in order to keep an order.

I uploaded some pictures of original illustrations. For the final edition, some of them have been discarded or changed by others, that's how are the creative processes.

Estoy segura de que será una historia muy bonita para leer a vuestros hijos antes de dormir, para que sueñen como Martin con las estrellas.

Estoy muy orgullosa y muy feliz, por que el libro de "Nola" ha conseguido en muy poco tiempo que lleva a la venta, un gran premio de Mom's choice awards. 

I am very proud and happy that Nola's book has gotten, in such a little time since came out for sale, the Mom's choice award.

Os quería enseñar también un par de dedicatorias, una de Stephanie Lisa Tara, la escritora de Nola, que me dedica con mucho amor el libro, y otra que hice yo para uno de mis mejores amigos.

I would like to show some dedications, one from Stephanie Lisa Tara, Nola's writter, who has dedicated the book with so much love, and other that I did for one of my best friends.

Nuevo libro para Jamaica

En esta entrada os pongo un avance del libro en el que estoy trabajando para Jamaica.

Proceso creativo del libro "NOLA". Creative process of the book "NOLA"

Escribo este post para mostraros el proceso creativo de un libro, al que adoro, llamado "NOLA". He tenido el placer de trabajar en este libro, escrito por Stephanie Lisa Tara, y de poder dibujar a Nola, una rinoceronte especial. 

Nola falleció el 22 de Noviembre de 2015 mientras realizábamos este libro, dejando ya tan sólo en el mundo 3 rinocerontes blancos del norte. Nola fue rescatada por el zoo de San Diego (USA) cuando era pequeña y allí vivió hasta que murió con la edad de 41 años. 

I write this post to show the creative process of a book, which I do adore, named "NOLA." I have had the pleasure of working for this book, written by Stephanie Lisa Tara, and have had the oportunity to draw Nola, a very special rhinoceros. 

Nola passed away 22nd November 2015 while we were working on the book, leaving just three more white north rhinoceros. Nola was rescuted by the San Diego's zoo (USA) when she was little, and have lived there until her death at the age of 41. 

Ésta es la forma en la que suelo trabajar en los libros de otros escritores para realizar las ilustraciones, (si el libro es mio suelo tener algo más de caos), aunque me gusta siempre seguir estos pasos, que voy a ir detallando a continuación:

This is the way of how I use to work in the books for other writters in order to perform the illustratios, (use to have some more caos if the book would ve been mine), eventhough I do like to follow these steps, which I will detailed below:

Aquí muestro un par de fotos de Nola en el zoo de San Diego, para documentarme busqué fotos de la Sabana africana, imágenes de los animales que aparecen en el libro, incluso llegué a hacer fotos de atardeceres que veía desde mi casa, ya que me encantaban los colores y quería poder plasmarlos en el libro.

Here are some pictures from Nola in the San Diego's zoo. In order to get document myself, I looked for some pictures from the African savanna, for example pictures from the animals which are to be found in the book, As well, I got to take some pictures from the sunset that I saw from my house, since I liked the colors and wanted to capture them in the book

Después creo los personajes a mi estilo, es un momento del proceso en el que me divierto mucho, porque adoro a los animales, (son mi otra gran pasión), y porque me encanta dibujarlos con cabezas grandes y caras adorables.

Then I create the characters using my style. This is a moment in the process where I get to enjoy alot, because I decorate the animals (another of my passions), and because I really like to draw them with big heads and adorable faces

STORYBOARD

Siempre hago un "storyboard" del libro completo para tener una visión global de cómo quedará. Es una herramienta que nos viene muy bien a la escritora Stephanie Lisa Tara y a mí.

I always do a complete "Storyboard" of the book in order to get a global vision of how it will look like at the end. It is a big and helpful tool for the writter Stephanie Lisa Tara and myself.

Aquí os muestro algunos bocetos de ilustraciones (página abierta), y su ilustración ya terminada, la técnica que he utilizado es una técnica mixta tradicional de acuarela y lápiz de color, sobre papel de alto gramaje.

Here you will find some sketches of illustrations (open page), and its finished illustration. The technique used is a traditional technique mixed based on watercolor and color pencil

Espero que os haya gustado el proceso de este maravilloso libro, que cuenta la historia real de Nola en un lenguaje amable para que los niños puedan entenderlo sin problemas, y disfrutar tanto padres e hijos de un momento bello leyéndolo y mirándolo. 

Es importante que nos concienciemos de que la caza furtiva ha acabado con los rinocerontes blancos del norte, (sólo quedan 3 en el mundo), y los demás rinocerontes llevan el mismo camino de ser extinguidos por el comercio de sus cuernos.

I hope you have like the process of this marvelous book that tells the real story of Nola, in a very friendly language so kids can understand it without a problem, and at the same time parents and kids can enjoy the beautiful moment while reading and looking at it. 

It is important that we raise awareness among the poaching that has destroyed the Northern White Rhinos (only three left in the hole world), and other rhynos that seems to be on the way of extintion due to the comerce of their horns.
